Sleeping in the car isn’t allowed, only tents.
Just out of Lorne, you can walk along the road there in 45-60 mins from beach depending on your pace and fitness level. Popular camp with backpackers.
Car park is about 300 meters away from the camp ground, so be prepared and consider what you really need to lug down there and back. No sleeping in cars there, regularly controlled due to proximity to Lorne.
But the camp itself is great, quiet large and open, surrounded by beautiful bushland. Toilet are fine (composting long drops) with tank water for washing (not drinking). Note, no fires allowed at all, so lug your gas cooker down with you!
Some great hikes, the walk from camp down thru the forests to the ocean, then along to coast until you reach Lorne is beautiful and goes thru several micro climates including amazing prehistoric tree ferns several meters tall, well recommended!
Like most camps theses day, busy on public holidays, but you can generally find somewhere to pitch your tent, even if it is a bit of a squeeze.
Had a great stay here. It’s only a 200m walk from the car park to the camping area. We saw wallabies, cockatoos (grey and white), parrots, kookaburras, ducks and a koala!
There is only supposed to be 17 official camping sites but there was far more people staying than this when we camped. Note: we went to the campsite on a weekend shortly after New Years!
Toilets were clean and the entire area was tidy. Mostly backpackers staying.
Nice campspot in the forest, close to Lorne, no toilets/water, unfortunately just 6 sites available although there have been more than 10 campers, very busy
Great campsite 230 meters in from the carpark in the Bush. Close 10min drive to the trailhead for a couple of majestic waterfall hikes. Lots of wildlife birds, koalas etc. Would go there again.
