Unpowered sites on the river below the main park are definitely the go. Short walk up the hill to use the amenities but worth it being away from the crowds. Short notice booking (1h) wasn’t an issue on a long weekend. Close to 4WD tracks and walks. Camp kitchens available too.

This is great little park close to Melbourne and Geelong but a bit busy around holiday season and would be better visited off season. The facilities are dated and quite small and there is only one for the entire park so at busy times it can become quite untidy at times. It is family friendly and pet friendly which is great but don’t expect a sleep in. There is a gorgeous park/picnic area right across the road that has access to the river. There are great walks, including a steep but easy walk to the Blackwood pub and coffee shop. Best of all you can have fires because after all camping is not camping if you can’t have a fire.
