Revising my earlier review after a sleepless night. The cabin was connected to 2 others and rattled and shook with every movement. Then the aircon came on with compressor just other side of wall to which my bed was attached. It vibrated through my pillow. Still, on the plus side, the welcome was warm and helpful. The cabin kitchenette had everything you could think of. The camp kitchen was abuzz with good vibes and free food.

I was welcomed on the day by Mikey who has a great sense of humour and lots of information about how to get the most out of travelling. The site is neat, on the edge of the river with fishing spots set up, but also close to the highway. I decided to get a cabin for the night rather than set up my tent. It was more sheltered from the traffic noise and very reasonable at $65.

Stayed here for one night, was a bit creeped out by the manager and seemed like there were many backpackers who were almost trapped there in pretty permanent tent set ups. Will stay elsewhere in Mackay in the future as it was a weird night and right on the highway and train line so not a good night sleep either.

Great management! Very friendly and helpful! Right on the river! Amenities cleaned regularly. Has all your basics; kitchen, BBQs, laundry. Was only going to stay two nights, stayed a week. Side note, it is located near main road and train line, probably wouldn’t recommend if you’re a light sleeper.

Friendly staff, clean facilities and communal kitchen. Manager went above and beyond with good local recommendations. Right on the beautiful river - lots of people catching fish and crab (but wear insect repellent!!!). Good flat grass for swags and tents. Lots of more semi permanent options available. Quiet and pleasant stay, enjoyed the board games, table tennis and friendly other guests. Would recommend however need a car to get to Mackay (not walking distance).
